Rapid Dual Carriageway Overpass Repairs on the A1

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd carried out urgent works on the St. Leonards overpass on the A1 trunk road near Morpeth for Northumberland County Council. The 9-day programme required continuous 24/7 working to repair both the northbound and southbound dual carriageways without delay.

Works included the removal and replacement of the failed subsurface drainage system, waterproofing of the existing bridge deck, resurfacing with HRA, new expansion joints, and contra-flow traffic management. Activities were highly time-sensitive with limited scope for delays due to weather or traffic conditions.

The scheme was delivered under NEC 4, completed to programme, and achieved zero accidents or pollution incidents.
