STRUCTURE REPLACEMENT

CLIENT: North Yorkshire County Council    VALUE: £126,000     COMPLETION: November 2022     

DURATION: 10 weeks    CONTRACT: NEC 3 Option

WORK INCLUDES (PHASE 1)

  • Excavate and remove concrete manhole rings and brick section of the structure.
  • Excavate to proposed sub-base
  • Lay well compact granular fill and concrete sub-base
  • Place CSR Pipe into concrete sub-base
  • Form concrete surround
  • Install back of wall drainage with geotextile material
  • Backfill with no fines concrete with geotextile material
  • Install temporary road. Removed hedges and boundary walls
  • Install TVCB, barriers and fencing

ADDITIONAL WORKS INCLUDED

  • Remove masonry stone arch
  • Excavate to proposed base
  • Lay granular and concrete base
  • Place CSR Pipe into concrete base
  • Form concrete surround, with 50mm fibre board placed between the two different sections
  • Apply bitumen emulsion to concrete surround
  • Backfill with no fines concrete and geotextile material
  • Parapet and spandrel walls rebuilt using existing stone and a 1:1:6 mortar mix
  • Reinstate surfacing
  • Install concrete toe beam and invert throughout the pipe
  • Build training walls, existing stone reused
  • Remove temporary road
  • Erect post and wire boundary fence around downstream headwall
  • Reinstate all embankments using granular fill and topsoil
  • Reinstate boundary wall. Hedge row reinstated with a 4 post and rail fence and new hedge plantings
  • All verges to be reinstated using topsoil and grass seed

ADDITIONAL WORKS INCUDED

  • Ecologists employed to carry out wildlife surveys and monitor the works in progress
  • Applying for and working within the Environmental agency permit (EA)
  • Working over/adjacent to water

KEY RISKS / CHALLENGES

  • The structure is located within a flood plain
  • Pollution prevention to main watercourse
  • Private water mains located either side of the structure, safeguard the integrity of the mains during works

  • Masonry wall rebuilding undertaken by our own directly employed masons ensuring consistent quality
  • Surfacing works undertaken by our own in-house team ensuring quality and timescales can be maintained
